Travertine look without the slab on the facade

Travertine pits can be a mineral skin instead of a slab. Specify the look, then lock mass, thickness, and fire class to the current data sheet — not to a stone yard quote.

In brief

  1. Travertine look in flexible stone is a mineral skin with pits, not a cut slab.
  2. It is light enough for overlay and many high-rise paths — confirm mass on the current data sheet.
  3. Bronze-gold wash is a separate look. Sample metal finishes in the project light.

Architects specify travertine because the pits read as stone in a lobby. The cost of that read, in thick stone, is mass, thickness, and a handling crew. A mineral flexible stone sheet keeps the pits and the bedding of the face, and leaves the slab at the quarry.

What the mill is actually making

The travertine look on the board is a mineral skin. Mosaic travertine breaks the face into a grid of small blocks so the wall has a joint rhythm as well as pits. Both are cladding, not tile and not a printed film. Hold a mill-run sample in raking light: the voids should be in the surface, not in an ink layer.

Bronze-gold wash is a different look. It lays metal into the pits. Sample it under the project’s evening light, and do not treat it as a colourway of the unwashed face. The data sheet still governs thickness, mass, and fire class for both.

Where the look belongs

Lobbies, hotel corridors, and facades that want a familiar stone language without a stone-yard logistics chain. Overlay renovations that cannot take slab weight. Columns, if the radius is within the sheet — confirm on the current data sheet, then wrap a sample.

Do not specify travertine look as a floor, a wet-room tanking layer, or a structural unit. It is a wall skin. Joints, corners, and external sills follow the sheet, not a stonemason’s handbook.

Start with Travertine or Mosaic Travertine on the look board, request the current data sheet, and name the substrate. The mill will not lock a fire class in a journal sentence.
